Foreign driving license conversion in Israel: where to start

Check the official conversion route for the employee’s status and license class before assigning driving duties.

Start with the official conversion service

The Ministry of Transport publishes a driving-license conversion service that includes information for foreign residents. Read its current requirements for the person’s circumstances rather than assuming that every foreign license can be exchanged in the same way. Establish the license class, issuing country and employee status before asking which steps apply.

Keep preparation and permission separate

Organize the original license, identification and any supporting records required by the official process. Verify whether additional checks or steps apply rather than guessing from someone else’s conversion. Having an appointment or a submitted application does not establish the employee’s present right to drive a company vehicle.

Confirm before the vehicle handover

Ask the company to confirm the employee’s permitted driving position and the insurer’s conditions for the intended vehicle. Avoid universal foreign-license time limits unless verified for the actual status. FullSettleIL can assist with appointments and practical follow-up, while licensing decisions remain with the responsible authority.

Practical checklist

  • Identify status and license class
  • Follow current conversion instructions
  • Confirm driving and insurance before handover

Sources and verification
